Our Club is delighted that Mr Peter Shepherd, Manager of Port Security of the Sydney Ports Corporation will speak at the SBC Business Buffet Luncheon at the Hotel Intercontinental's "Cafe Opera" on 5 March.
Since 2004 and the implementation of the International Ship & Port Facility Security Code, ports and port facilities around the world have been required to develop security plans and generally upgrade security arrangements. Peter, who was a key player in the security management for the Sydney Olympics, joined Sydney Ports Corporation in 2004 and has led the ports' security transformation.
Again, the eyes of the world were on Sydney Harbour last week when the Cunard's "Queen Victoria" and "Queen Elizabeth II" concurrently in port and conducting special manoeuvres. The behind-the-scenes security planning for the handling such ships is increasingly sophisticated and highly skilled professionals onboard and ashore work together, to enhance the confidence of passengers, visitors, crew, the broader port community and small boat owners. Meticulous security planning is an important element in keeping Sydney at the forefront of desirable cruise destinations.
Do come and hear Peter's interesting address!
