our goals

Our ambition is to encourage and build relationships between Australian and Nordic organizations and individuals, through organizing strategic events and building a network of contacts for our members.

Our vision is hence to further goodwill and facilitate the flow of intellectual capital.

what we do

The Scandinavian Business Club hosts three types of events:

Regular networking evenings at popular establishments in the city, connecting like minded people and offering a professional, yet social meeting space. These events are free of charge and although aimed at young professionals, all are welcome. We encourage attending members to bring friends and colleagues along.

We organise special events to introduce an influential speaker of Scandinavian affiliation, on a topic of global interest. These events are held in the early evening in a central location in the city, and include drinks and Scandinavian canapés.

Our traditional business-luncheons at the RACV club remain popular with senior members. For more information, contact Scott McEwan  scott@scandinavianbusinessclub.com.au

We also participate in consul events and provide a link to embassies of Scandinavian countries.

Alongside our events, we also offer our members a list of company and individual contacts.
No contact details will be published or freely distributed but contact can be made via our club.

Do you have a business idea, want more information on Scandinavian countries, or do you wish to trade with Scandinavia? Contact us, we will do our best to put you in touch with professionals through our network of contacts.

who are we

The club is run by a group of committed committee members, and headed by an annually elected president. The committee consists of members from each representative country: Australia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

We elect a president for the club every year and all our committee members have special tasks to ensure that the club runs smoothly from admin to catering at our events to corporate member liaison.

our history

The club was founded in 1961 by a group of businessmen who had originated from Scandinavian countries to Australia, and started their own enterprises during the years following the war. The congenial fellowship that had developed over time at their meetings, was formalized under a registered club and elected president as the club began to attract more and more members.
In 1963, the Hon Consul-General to Sweden, Ivar Stenström became the first President of the Club - which became registered at that time. The first Club luncheon was held at Menzies Hotel at Wynyard Square, Sydney.
An Honorary Treasurer was appointed from among the members and a yearly membership fee was introduced. An Annual General Meeting was to be held and the President's tenure was to be fixed at one year. The nations represented in the committee were to be Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden.

The traditional camaraderie has lasted decades, and is reflected in the culture and traditions of the club.

Whilst the club now has a new image and has adjusted to the realities of modern business life, the history of our club is not forgotten.
